Sunan Ibn Majah 3744 (Book 33, Hadith 88) #33098
Praising with Caution and Humility

SUMMARY: Praising someone should be done with caution and humility, as no one can be sanctified before Allah.

It was narrated from Abdur-Rahman bin Abu Bakrah that his father said: "A man praised another man in the presence of Messenger of Allah. The Messenger of Allah said: 'Woe to you,you have cut the neck of your companion,'several times. Then he said: 'If anyone of you praises his brother, let him say: "I think he is lie this, but I do not sanctify anyone before Allah".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be cautious when praising another person

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us to be humble when praising others. We should not think too highly of anyone, as only Allah is worthy of being sanctified. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ warned against praising someone too much, saying "Woe to you,you have cut the neck of your companion," several times. He then advised that if we must praise someone, we should do so cautiously by saying "I think he is like this but I do not sanctify anyone before Allah". This teaches us to always remember that only Allah is worthy of being praised and glorified above all else. It also reminds us to be humble in our words and actions towards others.
