Using the Prophet's Name

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised people to call each other by his name, but not by his Kunyah.

It was narrated that Anas said: "The Messenger of Allah was in Baqi', and a man called out to another man: 'O Abul-Qasim!' The Messenger of Allah turned to him, and he said: 'I didn't mean you'. The Messenger of Allah said: 'Call yourselves by my name but do not call yourselves by my Kunyah'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Call each other using the prophet's name with reverence .

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was in Baqi’ when a man called out to another man using the phrase “O Abul-Qasim!”. The Prophet ﷺ turned towards him and said that he did not mean him. He then advised people to call each other by his name but not by his kunyah. A kunyah is an Arabic term used for a nickname or title given to someone based on their firstborn child or family member. This hadith teaches us that we should respect and honor the Prophet ﷺ and use his name with reverence when addressing others. We should also be mindful of our words and actions as they can have unintended consequences if we are careless with them.
