The Power of Naming

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) giving Abdullah bin Salam a new name.

It was narrated that Abdullah bin Salam said: "I came to the Messenger of Allah, and my name was not Abdullah bin Salam. The Messenger of Allah named me Abdullah bin Salam".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَعْلَى أَبُو الْمُحَيَّاةِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَى ابْنُ أَخِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلاَمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلاَمٍ، قَالَ قَدِمْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ ـ وَلَيْسَ اسْمِي عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ سَلاَمٍ فَسَمَّانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ سَلاَمٍ
