Prohibited Names for Slaves

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad forbade giving slaves four specific names.

It was narrated that Samurah said: "The Messenger of Allah forbade giving our slaves four names: Aflah (successful), Nafi' (beneficial), Rabah (profit) and Yasar(prosperity)".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنِ الرُّكَيْنِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ أَنْ نُسَمِّيَ رَقِيقَنَا أَرْبَعَةَ أَسْمَاءٍ أَفْلَحُ وَنَافِعٌ وَرَبَاحٌ وَيَسَارٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad taught that it was forbidden to give slaves four specific names; Aflah (successful), Nafi' (beneficial), Rabah (profit) and Yasar(prosperity). These names are associated with success and prosperity, which is why the Prophet Muhammad forbid them from being used for slaves. He wanted to ensure that slaves were not given false hope or expectations of a better life. This hadith teaches us the importance of treating all people with respect and dignity regardless of their social status or position in society. It also reminds us that we should not give false hope to those who are less fortunate than us.
