Responding to Greetings with Peace

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us to respond to greetings from people of other faiths with peace.

It was narrated that Anas bin Malik said "the Messenger of Allah said": "When any of the People of the Book greets you with Salam (peace), then say, Wa 'alaikum(and also upon you)".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ إِذَا سَلَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ فَقُولُوا وَعَلَيْكُمْ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of responding to greetings from people of other faiths with peace. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instructed us that when someone from the People of the Book greets us with “Salam”, we should respond by saying “Wa 'alaikum”. This is a sign of respect and kindness towards others and shows that we are open-minded and accepting towards different beliefs. It also demonstrates our commitment to peaceful coexistence between different communities and religions.
