Sunan Ibn Majah 3653 (Book 32, Hadith 104) #33007
Rejecting Images in Home Decor

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ tore down a curtain with images on it and used the fabric to make two pillows.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "I covered a small room closet of mine, meaning, from the inside, with a curtain on which there were images. When the Prophet came, he tore it down, so I made two pillows from it, and I saw the Prophet reclining on one of them".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect Islamic teachings, be mindful of your surroundings, use resources creatively

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of rejecting images in home decor. It was narrated by 'Aishah that she had covered a small room closet with a curtain on which there were images. When the Prophet came, he tore it down and made two pillows from it. This teaches us that we should not have any kind of image or picture in our homes as this is against Islamic teachings. We should instead focus on creating an environment that is pleasing to Allah and His Messenger, such as having Quranic verses hung up or other Islamic decorations instead of pictures or images of people or animals. The Prophet's actions also show us how important it is to be mindful of our surroundings and how we can use what we have for good purposes even if they are not originally intended for them.
