Sahih al-Bukhari 334 (Book 7, Hadith 1) #330
The Revelation of Tayammum

SUMMARY: This hadith is about how Allah revealed the divine verses of Tayammum when the people were in a place with no water and how Abu Bakr scolded Aisha for causing them to stay there.

Narrated 'Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) We set out with Allah's Messenger on one of his journeys till we reached Al- Baida' or Dhat al-Jaish, a necklace of mine was broken (and lost). Allah's Messenger stayed there to search for it, and so did the people along with him. There was no water at that place, so the people went to Abu- Bakr As-Siddiq and said, "Don't you see what 'Aisha has done? She has made Allah's Apostle and the people stay where there is no water and they have no water with them". Abu Bakr came while Allah's Messenger was sleeping with his head on my thigh, He said, to me: "You have detained Allah's Messenger and the people where there is no water and they have no water with them. So he admonished me and said what Allah wished him to say and hit me on my flank with his hand. Nothing prevented me from moving (because of pain) but the position of Allah's Messenger on my thigh. Allah's Messenger got up when dawn broke and there was no water. So Allah revealed the Divine Verses of Tayammum. So they all performed Tayammum. Usaid bin Hudair said, "O the family of Abu Bakr! This is not the first blessing of yours". Then the camel on which I was riding was caused to move from its place and the necklace was found beneath it.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about an incident that happened during one of Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ journeys. A necklace belonging to 'Aisha, his wife, was broken and lost. As they searched for it, they realized that there was no water at the place where they were staying. People started blaming 'Aisha for making them stay in a place with no water and Abu Bakr scolded her as well. However, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ remained asleep on her thigh throughout this time. When dawn broke and still there was no water, Allah revealed the divine verses of Tayammum which allowed them to perform ablution without using any water. Eventually, the necklace was found beneath the camel on which 'Aisha was riding. This hadith teaches us that even if we make mistakes or cause inconvenience to others due to our actions or decisions, we should not be disheartened because Allah will always provide us with solutions in difficult times if we turn towards Him in prayer and supplication. It also shows us how Abu Bakr showed kindness towards Aisha despite reprimanding her by saying "O family of Abu Bakr! This is not your first blessing".
