Moderation in Eating, Drinking and Clothing

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) advised people to eat, drink, give charity and wear clothes in moderation.

It was narrated from 'Amr bin Shu’aib, from his father, that his grandfather said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Eat and drink, give charity and wear clothes, as long as that does not involve any extravagance or vanity.’"
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَنْبَأَنَا هَمَّامٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا وَتَصَدَّقُوا وَالْبَسُوا مَا لَمْ يُخَالِطْهُ إِسْرَافٌ أَوْ مَخِيلَةٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of moderation in life. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ advised us to eat and drink moderately, give charity as much as we can afford and wear clothes that are not extravagant or vain. He taught us that it is important to be content with what we have and not waste our resources on unnecessary things. We should also remember that Allah has given us these blessings so we should use them wisely for His pleasure. We should also remember to thank Him for all the blessings He has bestowed upon us with humility and gratitude.
