Preserving the Clothing of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of preserving the clothing of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and not altering it in any way.

It was narrated that Abu 'Umar, the freed slave of Asma’, said: "I saw Ibn 'Umar buying a turban that had some markings, then he called for a pair of scissors and cut that off. I entered upon Asma’ and mentioned that to her, and she said: 'May 'Abdullah perish, O girl! Give me the garment of the Messenger of Allah .’ A garment was brought that was hemmed with brocade on the sleeves, necklines and openings (at the front and back)".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عُمَرَ، مَوْلَى أَسْمَاءَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ اشْتَرَى عِمَامَةً لَهَا عَلَمٌ فَدَعَا بِالْجَلَمَيْنِ فَقَصَّهُ فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَسْمَاءَ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهَا فَقَالَتْ بُؤْسًا لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَا جَارِيَةُ هَاتِي جُبَّةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏.‏ فَجَاءَتْ بِجُبَّةٍ مَكْفُوفَةِ الْكُمَّيْنِ وَالْجَيْبِ وَالْفَرْجَيْنِ بِالدِّيبَاجِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to us about respecting and preserving the clothing that belonged to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It was narrated by Abu 'Umar, a freed slave of Asma who saw Ibn 'Umar buying a turban with some markings on it. He then proceeded to cut off those markings with scissors. When Asma heard this she said "May Abdullah perish! Give me the garment of Messenger of Allah ﷺ". A garment was brought that was hemmed with brocade on its sleeves, necklines and openings at front and back. This hadith teaches us that we should respect and preserve anything related to our beloved prophet ﷺ as it is something sacred for Muslims all over the world. We should not alter or change anything related to him in any way as it shows disrespect towards him which is unacceptable in Islam.
