Drinking from Gold and Silver Vessels Forbidden

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad forbade drinking from vessels of gold and silver, as they are for the people of this world and for us in the Hereafter.

It was narrated that Hudhaifah said: "The Messenger of Allah forbade drinking from vessels of gold and silver. He said: "They are for them in this world and for you in the Hereafter.’"
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي الشَّوَارِبِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ، قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ عَنِ الشُّرْبِ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَقَالَ ‏ "‏ هِيَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَهِيَ لَكُمْ فِي الآخِرَةِ

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad taught us that we should not drink from vessels made of gold or silver. He said that these materials are meant for people who live in this world, while what is meant for us is in the Hereafter. This hadith teaches us to be content with what we have now, instead of striving after worldly possessions which will not benefit us in the afterlife. We should focus on doing good deeds which will bring rewards to our souls when we pass away.
