Prohibition of Dealing in Wine

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) prohibited the dealing of wine when the verses at the end of Surat Al-Baqarah were revealed.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "When the Verses at the end of Surat Al-Baqarah concerning usury were revealed, the Messenger of Allah went out and forbade dealing in wine".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ لَمَّا نَزَلَتِ الآيَاتُ مِنْ آخِرِ سُورَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ فِي الرِّبَا خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ فَحَرَّمَ التِّجَارَةَ فِي الْخَمْرِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) prohibited dealing in wine when verses at the end of Surat Al-Baqarah were revealed. The Quran states that usury and drinking alcohol are both forbidden and this hadith further explains that prohibition by showing how it was implemented by the Prophet himself.
