Sunan Ibn Majah 3238 (Book 28, Hadith 39) #32592
Eating Animals Transformed from People

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ was presented with a grilled mastigure and he questioned whether it was from the Children of Israel who were turned into beasts. He did not eat it, but also did not forbid it.

It was narrated that Thabit bin Yazid Al-Ansari said: "We were with the Prophet and the people caught a mastigure. They grilled it and ate from it. Then I caught a mastigure (a small lizard) so I grilled it and brought it to the Prophet . He took a palm stalk and started counting his finger with it, and said: 'A nation from among the Children of Israel was turned into beasts of the earth, and I do not know if this is they.’ I said: 'The people have grilled them and eaten them.’ He did not eat it and he did not forbid it".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful of our actions and consider their consequences before engaging in them

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet's reaction when he was presented with a grilled mastigure. The people had caught and eaten them, but the Prophet questioned whether they were from the Children of Israel who were transformed into beasts. He did not eat it himself, nor did he forbid others to do so. This teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions and consider their consequences before engaging in them. We should also be aware that Allah can transform people into animals as punishment for their sins, so we must strive to stay away from sinning and repent if we have done wrong in order to avoid such a fate ourselves.
