Mourning Others' Misfortune

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that there is no joy or celebration in the face of someone else's misfortune.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet said: "There is no Far’ah and no 'Atirah".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَهِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ـ ـ قَالَ ‏ "‏ لاَ فَرَعَةَ وَلاَ عَتِيرَةَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ هِشَامٌ فِي حَدِيثِهِ وَالْفَرَعَةُ أَوَّلُ النَّتَاجِ ‏.‏ وَالْعَتِيرَةُ الشَّاةُ يَذْبَحُهَا أَهْلُ الْبَيْتِ فِي رَجَبٍ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that we should not be happy or celebrate when someone else is facing misfortune. It was narrated by Abu Huraira from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who said “There is no Farah and no 'Atirah” which means there should be no joy or celebration in the face of someone else’s misfortune. We must remember to show compassion and empathy towards others even if they are not our close friends or family members. We must also remember to be grateful for what we have and not take it for granted as it can easily be taken away from us at any moment.
