EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith, narrated by Abu Umamah Al-Bahili, advises Muslims on the best types of shrouds and sacrifices. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that the best type of shroud for a deceased person is a two-piece Najrani garment. A kafan or shroud is an essential part of burial rites in Islam, as it covers the body before it is buried in the ground. A two piece Najrani garment was likely chosen because it was made from cotton which would provide comfort to those who have passed away. Additionally, he said that the best type of sacrifice is a horned ram. Qurbani or animal sacrifice has been practiced since ancient times as an offering to God during Eid al Adha celebrations each year. It symbolizes obedience to Allah’s commands and reminds us to give up something dear for His sake out of love and devotion towards Him.
