Sunan Ibn Majah 3073 (Book 25, Hadith 192) #32427
Delaying Departure During Menses

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was informed that Safiyyah had her menses and he instructed to not delay her departure.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "The Messenger of Allah mentioned Safiyyah and we said: 'She has got her menses.’ He said: ' 'Aqra Halqa!* I think that she has detained us.’ I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, she performed Tawaf al-Ifadah on the Day of Sacrifice.’ He said: 'No then, tell her to depart.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect people's privacy and personal matters even if it means having to wait for them or reschedule our plans accordingly; Be mindful of our words when discussing such matters; Show compassion towards others' feelings and situations; Follow instructions from Prophet Muhammad PBUH .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of not delaying a person's departure if they are on their menses. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was informed that Safiyyah had her menses and he instructed to not delay her departure. He also mentioned that she had already performed Tawaf al-Ifadah on the Day of Sacrifice which meant she could leave without any further delays. This teaches us that we should respect people's privacy and personal matters even if it means having to wait for them or reschedule our plans accordingly. We should also be mindful of our words when discussing such matters as we can easily hurt someone's feelings without meaning to do so.
