Sunan Ibn Majah 3016 (Book 25, Hadith 135) #32370
Completing Hajj with Fajr Prayer at Muzdalifah

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that if a person attends the Fajr prayer at Muzdalifah and departs from 'Arafat, then they have completed their Hajj.

It was narrated from 'Urwah bin Mudarris At-Ta’i that he performed Hajj during the time of the Messenger of Allah , and he did not catch up with the people until they were at Jam’ (Al-Muzdalifah). He said: "I came to the Prophet and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have made my camel lean (because of the long journey) and I have worn myself out. By Allah, there is no sand hill on which I did not stand. Have I performed Hajj?’ The Prophet said: 'Whoever attended the prayer (ie, Fajr at Muzdalifah) with us and departed from 'Arafat, by night or day, may remove the dirt and has completed his Hajj.’"

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith explains the importance of attending the Fajr prayer at Muzdalifah in order to complete one's Hajj. It is narrated by Urwah bin Mudarris At-Ta’i who performed his own Hajj during the time of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He was worried that he may not have completed his pilgrimage because he was late and did not catch up with everyone else until they were already at Jam’ Al-Muzdalifah. However, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ reassured him that as long as he attended the prayer and departed from 'Arafat then his pilgrimage was complete. This hadith teaches us about perseverance and dedication to our religious obligations even when we are faced with difficult circumstances or delays in our journey. It also shows us how important it is to seek guidance from those who are knowledgeable in matters of faith such as Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself so we can be sure that we are following Islamic teachings correctly.
