Sunan Ibn Majah 2947 (Book 25, Hadith 66) #32301
The Prophet's Tawaf at the Ka'bah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performed Tawaf on his camel and threw out a dove made of Aloeswood from the Ka'bah.

It was narrated that Safiyyah bint Shaibah said: "When the Messenger of Allah saw that things had settled down, in the year of the Conquest (of Makkah), he performed Tawaf on his camel, touching the corner with a staff in his hand. Then he entered the House and found a dove made of Aloeswood. He broke it, then he stood at the door of the Ka’bah and threw it out, and I was watching him".

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform rituals with respect; Have respect for places of worship; Show respect to other religions’ holy sites .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates an event that took place in Makkah after it was conquered by the Muslims. It is reported that when the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad ﷺ saw that things had settled down, he performed a ritual known as 'Tawaf'. This is where one walks around the Ka’bah seven times in an anti-clockwise direction. During this ritual, he carried a staff and touched each corner with it. After completing this ritual, he entered into the House of Allah and found a dove made of aloeswood inside. He then broke it and threw it out from the door of the Ka’bah while Safiyyah bint Shaibah watched him do so. This hadith teaches us about how important rituals are to Muslims and how they should be done with respect for their sanctity. It also shows us how much respect we should have for places of worship like mosques or churches as well as other holy sites such as shrines or tombs which are respected by different religions around the world.
