Wearing Leather Socks as an Alternative to Sandals

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) advised people to wear leather socks if they do not have sandals and to cut them below the ankle.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever does not have sandals let him wear leather socks, and let him cut them to below the ankle".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُصْعَبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ ـ قَالَ ‏ "‏ مَنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ نَعْلَيْنِ فَلْيَلْبَسْ خُفَّيْنِ وَلْيَقْطَعْهُمَا أَسْفَلَ مِنَ الْكَعْبَيْنِ

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is advising people who do not have sandals to wear leather socks instead. He also advises them to cut the socks below their ankles so that it does not look too long or untidy. This hadith teaches us that we should always be mindful of our appearance and dress appropriately for different occasions. It also teaches us that we should be resourceful and make use of what we have available in order to look presentable, even if it means wearing something unconventional like leather socks instead of sandals.
