The Status of Martyrdom

SUMMARY: Allah will grant the status of a martyr to those who sincerely ask for it, even if they die in their beds.

Sahl bin Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif narrated from his father, from his grandfather that the Prophet said: "Whoever asks Allah for martyrdom, sincerely from his heart, Allah will cause him to reach the status of the martyrs even if he dies in his bed".
حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عِيسَى الْمِصْرِيَّانِ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو شُرَيْحٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ، أَنَّ سَهْلَ بْنَ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ، حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ قَالَ ‏ "‏ مَنْ سَأَلَ اللَّهَ الشَّهَادَةَ بِصِدْقٍ مِنْ قَلْبِهِ بَلَّغَهُ اللَّهُ مَنَازِلَ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَإِنْ مَاتَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the status of martyrdom and how it can be achieved. It is narrated by Sahl bin Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif that Prophet Muhammad said that whoever asks Allah for martyrdom from his heart sincerely, Allah will grant him the status of a martyr even if he dies in his bed. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive to reach higher levels of faith and piety and ask for forgiveness from our Lord. We should also have sincere intentions when asking for something from Allah as He knows our hearts better than anyone else. Furthermore, this hadith also shows us that we should not underestimate any good deed or action as it may lead to great rewards in the hereafter, even if we do not see them in this world.
