Sunan Ibn Majah 2768 (Book 24, Hadith 16) #32122
Reward for Guarding Frontier in Cause of Allah

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the reward for guarding the frontier in the cause of Allah and defending Muslims, which is greater than worshipping for a hundred or thousand years, fasting and praying.

It was narrated that Ubayy bin Ka’b said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'For guarding the frontier for a day in the cause of Allah, defending the Muslims, seeking reward, apart from in the month of Ramadan, there is a reward granted greater than worshipping for a hundred years, fasting and praying. Guarding the frontier for a day in the cause of Allah, defending the Muslims, seeking reward, in the month of Ramadan, is better before Allah and brings a greater reward" – I think he said – "than worshipping for a thousand years, fasting and praying. If Allah returns him to his family safe and sound, no bad deed will be recorded for him for a thousand years, but his good deeds will be recorded, and the reward for guarding the frontier will come to him until the Day of Resurrection".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the great reward that awaits those who guard the frontier in the cause of Allah and defend Muslims. It was narrated by Ubayy bin Kab that Prophet Muhammad said that if someone guards a frontier for a day apart from Ramadan, they will be rewarded more than worshipping for a hundred years, fasting and praying. Furthermore, if someone guards a frontier during Ramadan they will be rewarded even more before Allah. If this person returns to their family safe and sound then no bad deed will be recorded against them for one thousand years but all their good deeds will be recorded with an additional reward from guarding the frontier until Judgment Day. This hadith teaches us to always strive to do good deeds as we never know what rewards await us in return.
