Sunan Ibn Majah 2717 (Book 22, Hadith 23) #32071
Receiving Reward for Charity on Behalf of Deceased

SUMMARY: A man asked the Prophet if he would receive a reward for giving charity on behalf of his mother who had died unexpectedly without making a will. The Prophet said yes.

It was narrated from Aishah that a man came to the Prophet and said: "My mother died unexpectedly and she had not made a will. I think that if she could have spoken, she would have given in charity. Will she have a reward if I give in charity on her behalf, and will I have a reward?" He said: "Yes".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give in charity even after someone's death

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of giving charity and how it can benefit those who are no longer alive. It was narrated from Aishah that a man came to the Prophet and asked if he would receive a reward for giving charity on behalf of his mother who had died unexpectedly without making a will. The Prophet said yes, indicating that even though his mother was not able to give in charity herself, her son could do so in her place and both she and her son would be rewarded for it. This teaches us that we should always strive to do good deeds, even if they are done on behalf of someone else or after their death, as Allah is Most Merciful and rewards all good deeds regardless of when or by whom they were done. Additionally, this hadith also encourages us to make sure our affairs are in order before we die so that our loved ones don’t have any extra burden after we pass away.
