Sunan Ibn Majah 2656 (Book 21, Hadith 42) #32010
Invalidation of Compensatory Money

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) invalidated the demand for compensatory money when a man bit his opponent and his tooth fell out.

It was narrated from Ya'la and Salamah the sons of Ummayah said: "We went out with the Messenger of Allah on the military expedition of Tabuk, and with us was a friend of ours. He fought with another man while we were on the road. The man bit the hand on his opponent, who pulled away his hand and the man's tooth fell out. He came to Messenger of Allah demanding compensatory money for his tooth, and the Messenger of Allah said: 'Would anyone of you go and bite his brother like a stallion, then come demanding compensatory money? There is no compensatory for this'." Hence, The Messenger of Allah invalidated it (i.e compensatory in such case).

QUICK LESSONS:
Respectful behavior towards others .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates an incident that happened during the military expedition of Tabuk in which two men were fighting with each other. One man bit the hand on his opponent, who pulled away his hand and the man's tooth fell out. He came to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ demanding compensatory money for his tooth but Prophet Muhammad ﷺ invalidated it saying that no one should expect to be compensated if they bite someone like a horse would do. This hadith teaches us that we should not expect any compensation if we cause harm to someone else intentionally or unintentionally as it is against Islamic teachings. It also teaches us about justice as Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did not allow anyone to be compensated in such cases even though he was asked by one party involved in the incident. We can learn from this hadith that justice should always prevail over personal interests or desires even if it means going against what we want or expect from others.
