Sunan Ibn Majah 2635 (Book 21, Hadith 21) #31989
Punishment for Killing

SUMMARY: Killing someone out of folly or tribal motives is punishable by paying the blood money, while killing deliberately is punishable by death. Trying to prevent this punishment will result in a curse from Allah, angels and people.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas, who attributed it to the Prophet : "Whoever kills out of folly or for tribal motives, using a rock, a whip, or a stick; he must pay the blood money for killing by mistake. Whoever kills deliberately, he is to be killed in retaliation. Whoever tries to prevent that, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels and all the people, and no change nor equitable exchange will be accepted from him".

Furthermore, anyone who tries to prevent this punishment will be cursed by Allah and all people alike and no change nor equitable exchange will be accepted from them. This hadith teaches us that we should not take justice into our own hands but instead leave it up to the authorities so that justice can be served properly without any bias or prejudice towards anyone involved in the situation.
