Punishment for Drunkenness

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the punishment for someone who gets drunk multiple times.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: "If he gets drunk, then whip him. If he does it again, then whip him. If he does it again, then whip him'. And he said concerning the fourth time: 'If he does it again, then strike his neck (ie, execute him)'. "
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا شَبَابَةُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏"‏ إِذَا سَكِرَ فَاجْلِدُوهُ فَإِنْ عَادَ فَاجْلِدُوهُ فَإِنْ عَادَ فَاجْلِدُوهُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ قَالَ فِي الرَّابِعَةِ ‏"‏ فَإِنْ عَادَ فَاضْرِبُوا عُنُقَهُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the punishment for someone who gets drunk multiple times. According to this hadith, if a person gets drunk, they should be whipped. If they get drunk again, then they should be whipped again. If it happens a third time, then they should be whipped again and if it happens a fourth time, then their neck should be struck and they should be executed. This shows that Islam takes drunkenness very seriously and has strict punishments in place to discourage people from engaging in such activities. It also serves as an example of how serious Allah is when it comes to matters of morality and justice in society.
