It was narrated from Ibn'Umar: The Prophet ﷺ stoned two Jews, and I was among those who stoned them. I saw (the man) trying to shield (the woman) from the stones".
The Prophet (ﷺ) showed mercy to those he punished by allowing them to shield themselves from the stones being thrown at them. He also showed mercy in his decision-making process as he did not take any action without first consulting others for their opinion on the matter. This teaches us that we should always seek advice from others before making any decisions or judgments so that we can make sure they are just and fair for all involved parties.
