Prohibition of Lending Land for Cultivation

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the prohibition of lending land for cultivation in return for a share of the harvest.

It was narrated that 'Amr bin Dinar said: "I heard Ibn 'Umar say: 'We used to lend land for cultivation in return for a share of the harvest, and we did not see anything wrong with that, until we heard Rafi' bin Khadij say: "The Messenger of Allah forbade it". Then we stopped because of what he said'. "
حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ، يَقُولُ كُنَّا نُخَابِرُ وَلاَ نَرَى بِذَلِكَ بَأْسًا حَتَّى سَمِعْنَا رَافِعَ بْنَ خَدِيجٍ يَقُولُ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ عَنْهُ ‏.‏ فَتَرَكْنَاهُ لِقَوْلِهِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prohibition of lending land for cultivation in return for a share of the harvest. It was narrated by 'Amr bin Dinar that he heard Ibn 'Umar say that they used to lend land to cultivate and get a share from its produce, but then they stopped when they heard Rafi' bin Khadij saying that Prophet Muhammad forbade it. This hadith teaches us that we should not lend our lands to others in exchange for a portion from its produce as it is prohibited according to Prophet Muhammad's teachings. We should also be careful with what we hear and take into consideration as it might be something important like this hadith which prohibits us from doing something wrong or bad.
