Sunan Ibn Majah 2431 (Book 15, Hadith 42) #31783
The Rewards of Charity and Loans

SUMMARY: Charity and loans are both rewarded by Allah, but loans are more rewarding because it is given out of need.

It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah said: "On the night on which I was taken on the Night Journey (Isra), I saw written at the gate of Paradise: 'Charity brings a tenfold reward and a loan brings an eighteen fold reward'. I said: 'O Jibril! Why is a loan better than charity?' He said: 'Because the beggar asks when he has something, but the one who asks for loan does so only because he is in need'. "

QUICK LESSONS:
Give out charity or lend money to those who need it

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the rewards of charity and loans. It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah said that on the night he was taken on his Night Journey, he saw written at the gate of Paradise that charity brings a tenfold reward and a loan brings an eighteen fold reward. When asked why a loan is better than charity, Jibril replied that it is because when someone asks for a loan they do so only because they are in need. This hadith teaches us to be generous with our wealth by giving out charity or lending money to those who need it as both will be rewarded by Allah. We should also remember to ask for help only when we truly need it as this will bring us greater rewards in the hereafter.
