Sunan Ibn Majah 2300 (Book 12, Hadith 164) #31652
Calling Out Before Taking Advantage

SUMMARY: When approaching a shepherd or garden, call out to the owner three times. If they answer, all is well. Otherwise, you may take what you need without taking advantage of them.

It was narrated from Abu Sa'eed that the Prophet said: "When you come to a shepherd, call him three times. If he answers (all well and good), otherwise drink (milk from the flock) without taking advantage. And when you come to a garden call the owner of the garden three times. If he answers (all well and good), otherwise eat (from the produce of the garden) without taking advantage".

QUICK LESSONS:
Call out three times when coming across a shepherd or garden

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that when we come across a shepherd or garden, we should call out to the owner three times before taking anything from them. If they answer our calls then all is well and good but if not then we can take what we need without taking advantage of them. This hadith teaches us to be respectful and courteous towards others and their property even if it means going without something that we need in the moment. It also teaches us to be mindful of how our actions might affect others and not take advantage of those who are unable to protect themselves or their property from being taken away by someone else.
