Sunan Ibn Majah 2279 (Book 12, Hadith 143) #31631
The Dangers of Usury

SUMMARY: Usury is not a good way to increase wealth as it will eventually lead to a decrease in wealth.

It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud that the Prophet said: "There is no one who deals in usury a great deal (to increase his wealth) but he will end up with little (ie, his wealth will be decreased)".

QUICK LESSONS:
Invest wisely and ethically; Work hard; Trust Allah for sustenance; Avoid dealing in Usuary .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith from Ibn Mas'ud warns against the dangers of usury, which is the practice of lending money with interest. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that anyone who deals in usury will end up with little, meaning that their wealth will be decreased. This teaches us that it is better to invest our money wisely and ethically rather than trying to make quick profits through usury. It also reminds us that Allah has given us all we need and we should trust Him for our sustenance instead of relying on unethical practices like usury.

Usurious practices are forbidden in Islam because they are unfair and exploitative towards those who borrow money, as well as being detrimental to society at large. Instead, Muslims should strive for financial stability through ethical investments and honest work so they can provide for themselves and their families without resorting to such practices.
