Sunan Ibn Majah 2265 (Book 12, Hadith 129) #31617
Forbidden Practice of Muzabanah

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade the practice of selling produce while still on the tree or vine for a measure of dry dates or raisins.

It was narrated that 'Abduilah bin 'Umar said: "The Messenger of Allah forbade the Muzabanah. The Muzabanah means when a man sells the dates of his grove when they are still on the tree, for a measure of dry dates; or, if it is grapes, he sells them when they are still on the vine, for a measure of raisins; or if it is a crop, he sells it for food, estimating the amount (of the crop in the field). He forbade all of these things".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest and just when dealing with others in business transactions

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the practice of Muzabanah which was forbidden by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is a type of transaction where one sells their produce such as dates and grapes while they are still on the tree or vine for a measure of dry dates or raisins. This practice was deemed unfair and unjust as it does not take into account any potential losses due to weather conditions or other factors that may affect the yield. The Prophet ﷺ taught us to be fair in our dealings with others and this hadith serves as an example of how we should conduct ourselves in business transactions. We should always strive to be honest and just when dealing with others so that everyone can benefit from our interactions.
