The Letter of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on Slave Purchase

SUMMARY: This hadith is about a letter written by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to 'Adda' bin Khalid bin Hawdhah, which was about the purchase of a slave or female slave.

It was narrated that 'Abdul-Masjid bin Wahb said: "Adda' bin Khalid bin Hawdhah said to me: 'Shall I not read to you a letter that the Messenger of Allah , wrote to me?' I said: 'Yes'. So he took out a letter. In it was: 'This is what 'Adda' bin Khalid bin Hawdhah bought from Muhammad the Messenger of Allah He bought from him a slave' or 'a female slave, having no ailments, nor being a runaway, not having any malicious behavior. Sold by a Muslim to a Muslim'."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ لَيْثٍ، صَاحِبُ الْكَرَابِيسِيِّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَجِيدِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ قَالَ لِي الْعَدَّاءُ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ هَوْذَةَ أَلاَ نُقْرِئُكَ كِتَابًا كَتَبَهُ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏.‏ قَالَ قُلْتُ بَلَى ‏.‏ فَأَخْرَجَ لِي كِتَابًا فَإِذَا فِيهِ ‏ "‏ هَذَا مَا اشْتَرَى الْعَدَّاءُ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ هَوْذَةَ مِنْ مُحَمَّدٍ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ ـ اشْتَرَى مِنْهُ عَبْدًا أَوْ أَمَةً لاَ دَاءَ وَلاَ غَائِلَةَ وَلاَ خِبْثَةَ بَيْعَ الْمُسْلِمِ لِلْمُسْلِمِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a letter written by the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) to 'Adda' bin Khalid bin Hawdhah, which was regarding the purchase of a slave or female slave. The letter stated that it should be from one Muslim to another and that there should be no ailments nor malicious behavior in the purchased person. This hadith teaches us that slavery is not allowed in Islam and it also teaches us how Muslims should treat each other with respect and kindness when engaging in any kind of transaction or business dealings.
