Compassion for Captives

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ was compassionate and did not want to separate families of captives when they were brought to him.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud said: "When captives were brought to him, the Prophet would give the members of one family together (to one person), not wanting to separate them".
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ـ ـ إِذَا أُتِيَ بِالسَّبْىِ أَعْطَى أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ جَمِيعًا كَرَاهِيَةَ أَنْ يُفَرِّقَ بَيْنَهُمْ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the compassion that the Prophet (ﷺ) showed towards captives. When captives were brought to him, he would give them all together as a family, so that they would not be separated from each other. This shows us how important it is to show kindness and compassion towards those who are in need or suffering, even if they are strangers or enemies. It also teaches us that family is an important value and should be respected and protected at all costs.
