Ownership Rights in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ruled that the fruit of a palm tree belongs to the one who pollinated it, and that the wealth of a slave belongs to the one who sold him, unless otherwise specified.

It was narrated that 'Ubadah bin Samit said: "The Messenger of Allah ruled that the fruit of a palm tree belongs to the one who pollinated it, and that the wealth of a slave belongs to the one who sold him, unless the purchaser stipulated a condition".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest in your dealings with others by stipulating conditions before entering into agreements or contracts. Respect other's ownership rights over their labor or investments.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains an important ruling in Islamic law regarding ownership rights. According to this hadith, if someone pollinates a palm tree, then they are entitled to its fruit. Similarly, if someone sells a slave then they are entitled to their wealth unless there is an agreement between buyer and seller specifying otherwise. This ruling is based on justice and fairness as it ensures that people receive what is rightfully theirs for their labor or investment. It also encourages people to be honest in their dealings with others by stipulating conditions before entering into agreements or contracts.
