Sunan Ibn Majah 2211 (Book 12, Hadith 75) #31563
Ownership of Fruits and Wealth of Slaves

SUMMARY: The hadith explains that when a palm tree is sold, the fruits belong to the seller unless otherwise specified in the agreement. Similarly, if a slave with wealth is bought, his wealth belongs to the seller unless otherwise specified in the agreement.

It was narrated from Salim bin 'Abdullah, bin 'Umar, from Ibn 'Umar, that : the Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever sells a palm tree that has been pollinated, its fruits belong to the seller, unless the purchaser stipulated a condition. And whoever buys a slave who has wealth, his wealth belongs to the seller, unless the purchaser stipulated a condition".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect agreements made between two parties involved in any transaction

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that when a palm tree or slave is sold, their respective fruits or wealth belong to the seller unless otherwise specified in an agreement between them and the purchaser. This means that if no such condition was mentioned at time of sale then it will be assumed that these items are included in what was purchased. It teaches us about fairness and justice between two parties involved in any transaction as well as respecting agreements made between them.
