QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for balance between obligations & health/wellbeing; Ask for help if something becomes too difficult; Fulfill your vows/promises with moderation

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about fulfilling vows with moderation. It was narrated from Ibn Abbas that the Messenger of Allah passed by a man in Makkah who was standing in the sun. He said "What is this?" They said "He vowed to fast and not to seek shade until night comes, and not to speak, and to remain standing". The Prophet advised him that he should still fulfill his vow but do it with moderation; he should be allowed to speak, seek shade and sit down but still complete his fasting. This teaches us that we should always strive for moderation when fulfilling our vows or promises as going overboard can be detrimental for our health or wellbeing. We must also remember that Allah does not burden us more than we can bear so if something becomes too difficult then we should ask for help or advice from those around us so that we can fulfill our obligations without compromising on our health or wellbeing.
