Sunan Ibn Majah 2117 (Book 11, Hadith 28) #31469
Prioritizing Allah's Will in Oaths

SUMMARY: When making an oath, one should always prioritize Allah's will over their own.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the Messenger of Allah said: 'When anyone of you swears an oath, let him not say: 'What Allah wills and what you will'. Rather let him say: 'What Allah wills and then what you will'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Prioritize Allah's Will when making an oath

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is teaching us the importance of prioritizing Allah’s will over our own when making an oath. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is reminding us that we should always put Allah’s will first and then our own. This means that whatever we swear to do, it must be something that is permissible in Islam and not something against the teachings of Islam. We must also remember to keep our promises and fulfill any oaths we make as this is a sign of trustworthiness and faithfulness.
