Sunan Ibn Majah 2055 (Book 10, Hadith 40) #31407
Divorce and the Fragrance of Paradise

SUMMARY: A woman should not ask her husband for a divorce unless it is absolutely necessary, otherwise she will be deprived of the fragrance of Paradise.

It was narrated from Thawban that the Messenger of Allah said: 'Any woman who asks her husband for a divorce when it is not absolutely necessary, the fragrance of Paradise will be forbidden to her'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Take marriage seriously ; Strive to make your marriages work ; Consider divorce as an absolute last resort .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that divorce should only be considered when absolutely necessary. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ warned women that if they asked their husbands for a divorce without any real need or reason to do so then they would be deprived of the fragrance of paradise. This means that if a woman does not take marriage seriously and does not try to make it work then she will miss out on one of the greatest rewards in paradise. It is important to remember that marriage is a sacred bond between two people and should not be taken lightly or broken without good cause. We must strive to make our marriages work and only consider divorce as an absolute last resort.
