Sahih al-Bukhari 3282 (Book 59, Hadith 91) #3138
Calming Anger with the Words of the Prophet

SUMMARY: The Prophet taught a word that can help someone relax and get rid of their anger.

Narrated Sulaiman bin Surd: While I was sitting in the company of the Prophet, two men abused each other and the face of one of them became red with anger, and his jugular veins swelled (ie he became furious). On that the Prophet said, "I know a word, the saying of which will cause him to relax, if he does say it. If he says: 'I seek Refuge with Allah from Satan'. then all is anger will go away". Some body said to him, "The Prophet has said, 'Seek refuge with Allah from Satan"'. The angry man said, "Am I mad?"

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how to deal with anger. It was narrated by Sulaiman bin Surd, who was sitting in the company of the Prophet when two men started arguing and one became very angry. The Prophet then said that he knew a word which would help him relax if he said it - “I seek refuge with Allah from Satan”. This phrase is known as Isti'adha, and it helps us to remember that we should not let our emotions take control over us, but instead turn to Allah for protection from evil thoughts and feelings. We should also remember that getting angry can lead to bad consequences, so it is important to stay calm even when faced with difficult situations.

The values taught in this hadith are patience, self-control, faith in Allah's protection and seeking refuge in Him during times of distress or difficulty. We should also be mindful of our words when we are angry as they can have serious consequences on ourselves or others around us.
