Sunan Ibn Majah 1817 (Book 8, Hadith 35) #31169
Charity on Irrigated Produce

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that one-tenth of the produce should be given as charity for whatever is irrigated by the sky, rivers and springs, or draws up water from deep roots. For whatever is irrigated by animals, one half of one-tenth should be given as charity.

Salim narrated that: that his Father said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'For whatever is irrigated by the sky, rivers and springs, or draws up water from deep roots, one-tenth. For whatever is irrigated by animals (ie by artificial means) one half of one-tenth'. "

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about the importance of giving charity to those in need. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that when a person harvests produce that has been irrigated by natural means such as rain, rivers and springs or draws up water from deep roots, they should give one tenth of their harvest in charity. If the produce was irrigated artificially with animals then they should give half a tenth in charity. This hadith encourages us to share our blessings with others and reminds us to be generous with our wealth so we can help those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
