The Reward of Gratitude in Eating

SUMMARY: Eating with gratitude is as rewarding as fasting patiently.

It was narrated from Sinan bin Sannah Al-Aslami, the Companion of the Prophet , that the Messenger of Allah said: "A grateful eater will have a reward like that of a patient fasting person".
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الرَّقِّيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي حُرَّةَ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ، حَكِيمِ بْنِ أَبِي حُرَّةَ عَنْ سِنَانِ بْنِ سَنَّةَ الأَسْلَمِيِّ، صَاحِبِ النَّبِيِّ ـ ـ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ الطَّاعِمُ الشَّاكِرُ لَهُ مِثْلُ أَجْرِ الصَّائِمِ الصَّابِرِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that eating with gratitude is just as rewarding as fasting patiently. It was narrated by Sinan bin Sannah Al-Aslami, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The reward for being grateful while eating is similar to that of a patient fasting person. Being grateful means to thank Allah for providing us with food and nourishment, and it can be done through prayer or simply expressing our appreciation out loud. This hadith encourages us to be thankful for all that we have been blessed with and reminds us that even small acts such as eating can bring great rewards if done in a state of gratitude.
