Eating Suhur Before Dawn Prayer

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions eating Suhur before dawn and then praying soon after.

It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that Zaid bin Thabit said: "We ate Suhur with the Messenger of Allah then we got up to perform prayer". I said: "How long was there between the two?" He said: "As long as it takes to recite fifty verses".
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ الدَّسْتَوَائِيِّ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، قَالَ: تَسَحَّرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ثُمَّ قُمْنَا إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ ‏.‏ قُلْتُ كَمْ بَيْنَهُمَا؟ قَالَ: قَدْرُ قِرَاءَةِ خَمْسِينَ آيَةً

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of eating suhoor before dawn prayer. It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that Zaid bin Thabit said that they ate suhoor with the Messenger of Allah and then got up to perform prayer. When asked how long was there between the two, he said as long as it takes to recite fifty verses. This hadith teaches us that we should eat suhoor before dawn prayer in order to have enough energy for our prayers and also to be able to recite a few verses during our prayers. It also shows us how important it is for us to take time out for our prayers even if it means sacrificing some sleep or other activities.
