Fasting While Travelling

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad fasted while travelling and broke his fast.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "The Messenger of Allah fasted while he was traveling, and he broke his fast".
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ صَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ فِي السَّفَرِ وَأَفْطَرَ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the practice of fasting while travelling. It was narrated by Ibn 'Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) fasted while he was traveling and then broke his fast. This hadith teaches us that it is permissible to break one's fast when traveling, as long as one does not do so out of laziness or forgetfulness. It also teaches us that we should strive to maintain our religious obligations even when we are away from home or on a journey. We should remember that Allah is always watching over us and will reward us for our efforts in fulfilling His commands.
