Fasting During Ramadan

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of fasting during Ramadan and how to determine when it begins and ends.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: "When you see the new crescent then fast, and when you see it then stop fasting. If it is cloudy then fast thirty days".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَرْوَانَ الْعُثْمَانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْهِلاَلَ فَصُومُوا وَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَأَفْطِرُوا فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَصُومُوا ثَلاَثِينَ يَوْمًا

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. It was narrated by Abu Hurairah, a companion of Prophet Muhammad, that he said that when you see the new crescent in the sky, then start fasting and when you see it again then stop fasting. If there are clouds in the sky then fast for thirty days. This hadith teaches us to be mindful of our religious obligations and to follow them with dedication even if we cannot physically observe them due to certain circumstances such as cloudy weather. It also teaches us that we should not take our religious obligations lightly but rather strive to fulfill them with sincerity and dedication.
