Sunan Ibn Majah 1638 (Book 7, Hadith 1) #30990
The Reward of Good Deeds and Fasting

SUMMARY: Every good deed of a person will be rewarded manifold, and fasting is especially rewarded by Allah.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: "Every good deed of the son of Adam will be multiplied manifold. A good deed will be multiplied ten times up to as many as seven hundred times, or as much as Allah wills. Allah says: 'Except for fasting, which is for Me and I shall reward for it. He gives up his desire and his food for My sake.’ The fasting person has two joys, one when he breaks his fast and another when he meets his Lord. The smell that comes from the mouth of a fasting person is better before Allah than the fragrance of musk".

QUICK LESSONS:
Do good deeds, Fast for God's sake

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the rewards for good deeds that a person does. It is narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said that every good deed done by a person will be multiplied manifold, up to seven hundred times or more depending on what Allah wills. However, fasting has an even greater reward as it is done for the sake of Allah alone and He will reward it Himself. The joys experienced by a fasting person are twofold; one when they break their fast and another when they meet their Lord. Moreover, the smell coming from the mouth of a fasting person is better before Allah than even musk! This hadith teaches us to do good deeds in order to receive rewards from Allah and also encourages us to fast as it has great rewards with it.
