The Strength of Raising Children in Islam

SUMMARY: Sending forth children to learn and practice the teachings of Islam is a strong fortification against the Fire.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever sends fourth three of his children who had not reached the age of puberty, they will be a strong fortification for him against the Fire". Abu Dharr said: "I sent forth two". He said: "And two" Ubayy bin Ka’b, the chief of the reciters, said: "I sent forth one". He said: "Even one".
حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، عَنِ الْعَوَّامِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ، مَوْلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏"‏ مَنْ قَدَّمَ ثَلاَثَةً مِنَ الْوَلَدِ لَمْ يَبْلُغُوا الْحِنْثَ كَانُوا لَهُ حِصْنًا حَصِينًا مِنَ النَّارِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ: قَدَّمْتُ اثْنَيْنِ ‏.‏ قَالَ: ‏"‏ وَاثْنَيْنِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ أُبَىُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ أَبُو الْمُنْذِرِ سَيِّدُ الْقُرَّاءِ: قَدَّمْتُ وَاحِدًا ‏.‏ قَالَ" ‏"‏ وَوَاحِدًا

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of raising children in accordance with Islamic teachings. It was narrated from 'Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah said that whoever sends forth three or more children who have not reached puberty yet will be a strong fortification for him against the Fire. Abu Dharr and Ubayy bin Kab both mentioned that they sent forth two and one child respectively, to which Prophet Muhammad replied positively. This hadith emphasizes on how important it is for parents to raise their children according to Islamic values so they can protect themselves from Hellfire in the hereafter. It also encourages parents to educate their children about Islam so they can become good Muslims and benefit society as well as themselves. Furthermore, this hadith teaches us that even if we only have one child, we should still strive our best to raise them properly according to Islamic values so they can be protected from Hellfire in the hereafter.
