Avoiding Practices from the Days of Ignorance

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) warned against the practices of tearing garments, striking cheeks and crying with the cry of the Days of Ignorance.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah said: "He is not one of us who tears his garments, strikes his cheeks, and cries with the cry of the Days of Ignorance.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Be patient when faced with difficult situations; Turn to Allah for help; Follow Islamic teachings instead of outdated methods from pre-Islamic times.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us to stay away from certain practices that were common during the time before Islam. These practices included tearing one's clothes in grief or anger, slapping one's cheeks and wailing loudly. He said that anyone who does these things is not a true believer in Islam. This hadith teaches us to be patient and control our emotions when faced with difficult situations instead of resorting to these outdated methods. We should also remember that Allah is always there for us and will help us through any hardship if we turn to Him in prayer and supplication.
