Sunan Ibn Majah 1546 (Book 6, Hadith 114) #30898
Visiting Al-Baqi and Praying for the Believers

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) was visiting Al-Baqi and greeted the believers who had passed away before him, asking Allah to not deprive them of their reward and not put them to trial after them.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "I could not find him, meaning the Prophet , and he was in Al-Baqi’. He said: "As-salamu 'alaykum dara qawmin mu’minin. (Peace be upon you, O abode of believing people. You have gone ahead of us and verily we will join you soon. O Allah, do not deprive us of their reward and do not put us to trial after them)".

QUICK LESSONS:
Remembering our deceased loved ones with kindness; praying for their souls; striving for faithfulness; asking Allah's mercy upon them .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's visit to Al-Baqi, a cemetery in Medina where many of his companions were buried. He greeted those who had passed away before him with peace, saying "As-salamu 'alaykum dara qawmin muminin." He then said that they have gone ahead of us and we will join them soon. He asked Allah to not deprive us of their reward or put us to trial after them. This teaches us that we should remember our deceased loved ones with kindness and pray for their souls so that they may receive mercy from Allah. We should also strive to be like those who have gone before us in faith so that we can join them in Paradise one day.
