Sunan Ibn Majah 1524 (Book 6, Hadith 92) #30876
Offering Funeral Prayers for Hypocrites

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) offered the funeral prayer for a leader of the hypocrites, but Allah revealed that it was not permissible to offer such prayers for them.

It was narrated that Jabir said: "The leader of the hypocrites in Al- Madinah died, and left instructions that the Prophet should offer the funeral prayer for him and shroud him in his shirt. He offered the funeral prayer for him and shrouded him in his shirt, and stood by his grave. Then Allah revealed the words: 'And never pray (the funeral prayer) for any of them (hypocrites) who dies, nor stand at his grave". 9:84

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey Allah's commands even if they go against our own desires or those of others around us.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's obedience to Allah and his teachings. It narrates an incident where a leader of the hypocrites in Al-Madinah died and left instructions that the Prophet should offer his funeral prayer and shroud him in his shirt. The Prophet followed these instructions, but then Allah revealed that it was not permissible to offer such prayers or stand at their graves. This teaches us that we must always obey Allah's commands even if they go against our own desires or those of others around us. We must also be wary of hypocrisy as it is one of the greatest sins in Islam and can lead us astray from following God's path.
