Modesty in Dress and Behavior

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ advised 'Ali to not show his thigh and not look at the thigh of anyone, living or dead.

It was narrated that 'Ali said: "The Prophet said to me: 'Do not show your thigh, and do not look at the thigh of anyone, living or dead.’"
حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ آدَمَ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ ضَمْرَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ قَالَ لِي النَّبِيُّ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ لاَ تُبْرِزْ فَخِذَكَ وَلاَ تَنْظُرْ إِلَى فَخِذِ حَىٍّ وَلاَ مَيِّتٍ

This hadith is about modesty in dress and behavior. It was narrated by 'Ali that the Prophet said to him, "Do not show your thigh, and do not look at the thigh of anyone, living or dead." This hadith teaches us that we should be modest in our clothing choices as well as our behavior. We should also respect others by avoiding looking at their body parts which are considered private. By following this advice from the Prophet, we can maintain a sense of dignity and respect for ourselves as well as for others around us.
