Sunan Ibn Majah 1415 (Book 5, Hadith 613) #30767
Compassion for All Things

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ showed compassion and kindness to a tree trunk by embracing it when it made a sorrowful sound, and he said that if he had not embraced it, the tree would have grieved until the Day of Resurrection.

It was narrated from Anas that the Prophet used to deliver the sermon leaning on a tree trunk. When he started to use the pulpit, he went to the pulpit, and the trunk made a sorrowful sound. So he came to it and embraced it, and it calmed down. He said: "If I had not embraced it, it would have continued to grieve until the Day of Resurrection".

QUICK LESSONS:
Show compassion towards all living things regardless of their size or stature in life; even something as small as a tree trunk deserves our love and care .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of showing compassion and kindness to all things. It was narrated from Anas that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to deliver his sermon leaning on a tree trunk. When he started using a pulpit instead, the tree trunk made a sorrowful sound. In response, rather than ignoring or disregarding its distress, the Prophet went back to embrace it and comforted it with his kind words. He said that if he had not embraced it then its grief would have continued until the Day of Resurrection. This teaches us an important lesson about being compassionate towards all living things regardless of their size or stature in life; even something as small as a tree trunk deserves our love and care. We should strive to show mercy and affection towards all creatures in our lives so we can be rewarded on Judgment Day for our good deeds here on Earth.
